Employment remained stable in the euro area and EU in the second quarter.
The number of people employed in both the eurozone and the EU remained stable between April and June compared with data from the previous quarter, but fell by 0.6% over the same period of 2009, according to Eurostat. In particular, the number of employees in the euro zone reached 144.3 million in the second quarter of the year, while he rose to 220.7 in the European Union.
, gaia gold, In the case of Spain, the number of employees fell by 0.2% in the second quarter compared to the three months anterioresEn the second quarter, the falls in employment is located in agriculture (-0.9% in the eurozone and – 0.4% in the EU), manufacturing (-0.5% in the euro area and -0.3% in the EU), construction (-0.3% and -0.4% respectively) and tranport services, commerce and, gaia items, communications (-0.2% in both zones).
By contrast, employment grew in financial and business services (0.6% in both euro area and EU) and other services sector, which inlcudes public administration, health and education (0.2 % in the eurozone and 0.3% for Twenty-seven).
In the case of Spain, the number of employees fell by 0.2% in the second quarter compared to the previous three months fell by 2.4% in interannual terms, the largest fall in the eurozone.
