20,000 canceled flights in Europe today because of the volcanic cloud.

Brussels, April 18 .- Nearly 20,000 flights will be canceled today in Europe by the end of "most" of European airspace by the ash cloud from an Icelandic volcano, reported the European Agency for the Safety of Air Navigation (Eurocontrol).

The European authority indicated that the approximately 24,000 flights scheduled for today (the figure is usual for a Sunday), may only, aika gold, operate 4,000, indicated in a statement.

Currently, "no services are provided air traffic control to civilian flights on most of the European airspace," said Eurocontrol as a function of the data which was available at 1030 GMT.

The agency asserted that, by the end of the day, will be more than 63,000 canceled flights in European airspace since last Thursday, when the cloud began to spread from the southern volcanic Iceland.
